I guess before I get too far into my blog, I need to tell you WHO I am?
I am a 34 year old mother of two, searching for my purpose. You'd think by now I would know more about what I want to "be" when I grow up. But I feel like there is still something out there that is looking for me. I am excited about my business, and feel like its leading me there, I know good things are right around the corner. I can feel it!I was a Preschool Teacher and Director for 12 years. And at one point I can say, I was in my zone and doing what I love. There is nothing more gratifying than to see little eyes light up when they learn something new. Their little brains were like sponges that soak up everything. Their capacity to learn is amazing and totally underestimated. I also enjoyed listening to them talk and hear how they interpret things. I enjoyed being silly, dancing, making messes, and knowing I had a part in their love for learning. I still see some of my students today who remember me, and THAT is a great feeling. But I got to the point where its harder and harder to find work in that field that would allow me to pay my bills, let alone to dream about bigger things. I just felt like I needed something more...
I have been married to my husband Thomas for 13 years, and thankfully he is supportive of any decisions I make or business ventures I have been on. He's a quiet guy. A sports buff, and if he's not working, he's watching football, basketball, baseball, hockey, track, you name it! He is into all kinds of sports and it's no wonder our son is following in his foot steps. I too love watching basketball and football. I grew up as a MIZZOU fan, and have always loved the excitement, especially in college sports! Don't get me wrong, I still love my nail polish and high heels!
My oldest of the two is my 16 year old daughter, Kayla. A gorgeous young lady, with a care free spirit and the attitude of her mother. She is me-made-over! I am happy to see so much of myself shining out of her, but when we bump heads, oh boy, watch out! We are both determined to prove our point, so family discussions sometimes turn into a debate. Or battle to the death...whichever you want to call it. The best thing is she is forgiving and can look at me and laugh when its all over. She's never met a stranger and has a giving personality. She often says she wants to be a social worker, counselor, or teacher when she grows up. Oh, one that also does fashion design and graphic arts. She wears goofy hats and mis-matched socks to school, crazy clothes is her trademark, and we love that about her!
My youngest is my 12 year old son, DeShawn. He is quiet like his dad, and was born with a basketball in his hand. He was never a snuggler, and didn't play with stuffed animals as a baby. He bounced balls, all over the house, all the time. He plays football for school and is currently on a competitive basketball league that travels through out our state. When it's not sports its Xbox games while listening to mom say, "when we were kids, we played outside until dark." Ever heard that one? He has the stubborn streak as well, and as persistent as God makes them, but has a love for animals that shows his sweet gentle side... when he thinks no one is looking.Sometimes my life is exciting, other times it feels like the movie "Groundhog Day" (on repeat). I have struggles like everyone else, and want to be a better me. My Mission...is to create my own happiness.
